Discover Montessori School
Summary
This project consists of a ten-classroom Montessori farming school on the Agricultural Land Reserve outside of Nanaimo, BC. As such, the project was required to demonstrate how the site can be “easily returnable to farm use” and “light on the land” to allow the land to return to its original state for potential future farm uses. This project emphasizes environmental sustainability and is targeting Canada Green Building Council Zero Carbon Building (CaGBC ZCB), incorporating low carbon construction, a high-performance envelope, an energy-efficient HVAC system and an integrated solar energy generation system. The project also incorporates water-saving design strategies and collects rainwater for potable water use, as the first project of this kind approved in BC.
