Central Nanaimo Urgent and Primary Care Centre

Designed for Island Health, the Nanaimo Urgent & Primary Care Centre transforms an existing 11,500 sf urban building into an adaptive re-use healthcare facility optimized for patient-centred care and operational efficiency.

The layout balances clinical demands with intuitive patient flow, accommodating thirteen exam rooms, six consult rooms, specialized procedure, ENT, and accessible care spaces. Staff collaboration and support spaces are strategically integrated throughout the footprint to streamline day-to-day operations. Designed in close coordination with healthcare operators, the project prioritizes long-term durability, accessibility, and advanced infection control—highlighted by a self-contained droplet precaution zone with its own dedicated HVAC system.
